I've been reading about the searchx and yellowpagesearch combination that most people are referring to as about:blank http://www.spywarein...chronicles.html and can see this is what my prob. is. So I got dll.fix and am posting my output.txt, pv log and hijack this log. What is the next step now? I referenced http://forums.subrat...p?showtopic=583 to end up here and hopefully I am close to destroying this after on annd off again battle for 3 months.

I look forward to some directions.

Run Start.bat from dllfix again.
Choose option 2 (Run Fix).
Then choose option 1 (Enter DLL name manually).
At 'Enter full name ...' type at end of the sentence at the red cursor 'MS.DLL' (without quotes) and hit the Enter key.
At the message 'Restart in 14 seconds' let the reboot go on.
During reboot you will see a DOS window. Folder C:\Windows\System32 is scanned in two passes.

After completion of the boot please a new output.txt plus the log.txt you find in the dllfix folder.

"System was unable to find specified registry key or value." I could not get a log or reboot in 14 sec.s because of the responses I received.

I did try and fix on my own last night, but finished the evening still with hijack attempts. however this morning it has not happened yet.

Reboot to Safe Mode and log in as Administrator.
Start the Registry Editor (Start > Run > 'Regedit', Enter) and browse to key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion .
See whether you find a key there (left pane) named either 'Windows' or 'Notwindows'.
If you find one of them, select it, right-click, choose Take Ownership.
Click OK if a message says 'You have succesfully taken ownership ...'.
(If the menu-option Take Ownership is not present, skip the above step).
Again right-click on the key, select Permissions.
Click Advanced, on the Advanced panel uncheck 'Inherit from parents ...'.
If a dialog appears, click Copy. Click OK on the Advanced panel.
On the main panel in the listpane above select Administrator or Administrator Group.
Then at item 'Full Control' check the left box.
Click OK and close Regedit.

Then still in Safe Mode try dllfix Start.bat again with option 2, then 1, and 'MS.DLL'.

Do not try to fix on your own please. I do not know what has been done and what not then.

I followed directions to the "t" including unchecking "inherit from parents". I closed the regedit and ran dllfix (all of this in administrator safe mode).

The response was the following: "system was unable to find the specified registry key or value". therefore I have no log to post.

I will not try and do anymore on my own.

Can you try to find in the folder of dllfix the file manual.txt ?
If it is there open it and see whether the line 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\MS.DLL'
is in there?
If it is not type the text on the first line. No other text should be in the file.

Then could you give me the full path (drive and chain of folders) to the folder where you put dllfix?
