      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.

Yet another Solongas victim

20 posts in this topic

Greetings everyone, I tend to be the latest victim of this not-so-amusing spyware. Anyways, I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I have tried using SpybotS&D as well as HIjackThis (a rookie of both I am) and it hasn't done much to say the least. My latest HijackThis log is pasted below and any help would be very much appreciated.

Could you click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. If you already have CWShredder, click 'Check for update' and make sure you are running version 1.59. Reboot when done.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Reboot when done, find and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\sysstartup.exe

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here for a final check over.

Hey Daemon, thanks for your help. A couple of questions and then I'll post my ne HiJackThis log.

1.Should I have made back-ups when I fixed the files in Hijack? Can I delete the back-ups?

2.I couldn't find C:\WINDOWS\System32\sysstartup.exe where it should be, so I assume this isn't a problem.

Once again, thanks.

That looks OK now - how is it running?

HJT automatically makes back-ups and saves them to the folder in which it is installed. The other file was probably removed by CWShredder.

Click here to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. Click here to make sure that you have the latest Critical Update patches for Windows. It's very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks.

Hey Daemon,

Thanks again for your help. The only weird thing happening now is that IE wants me to change my start-up page to about:blank. I tried installing IE 6 but a message comes up saying, "A previous installation is awaiting a pending reboot." Needless to say, I have rebooted three times and still can't install it...oh well. I tried to get Windows updates, but i got an internal error...lol. Anyways, "about:blank" is the only problem I have for you. Thanks again. Here's the HiJack This log (I figure if I don't post it...you'll need it, and if I don't, you won't)

Hmmm... OK Click here to download and install Registrar Lite. Install, run, copy and paste this line to reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

and hit the "go" tab. Find: "Appinit_Dlls" value on the right side panel, DoubleClick, copy and post here the information in the 'Value' field.

Download 'Dllfix.exe' from here. It is a self-extracting archive; double click on it. Open the DLLFIX folder and double click on Start.bat.

At the main menu, press '1' (Run Find-All by FreeAtLast) and enter. Let the program run. When finished, press 'E' to exit. Open the DLLFix folder. Post the contents of Output.txt in this thread.

When I used Registrar Lite, and pasted in the address that you gave me, there was no AppInit_DLLs. In fact the only options were "drivers.desc" (a folder), "Drivers32" (another folder), and some other little file which yielded nothing. I went into those two folders to see if maybe I'd find it there, but no luck. I also tried removing "NT" just to see how far it would take me, but again..nothing. DLLfix says that it is for Windows 2000 and XP only. Sorry this is so much trouble...

My mistake - download StartDreck from here. Unzip to its own folder and start the program:

Press 'Config'

Press 'Unmark All'

Check the following boxes only:

Registry -> Run Keys

System/drivers> Running processes

Press 'Ok'. Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application). Post the log in this thread.

Download Win98Fix.zip from here.

Unzip to its own folder. Open Folder and double click on RunFix.reg file. Hit 'Yes' to merge it into your registry. Restart your computer. The bad file should now be visible so you can delete it.

Browse to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RESHHDL.DLL then delete it. Rescan with HJT and post a new log when done.

Sorry, I did in fact delete that one file before so hopefully this is success. Once this is all done, can I delete those back-up files that HJT created? Thanks again for all your help.

That looks OK now - how is it running?

Wait a couple of days before deleting the back-ups to make sure you are happy with everything - the malware can't harm you now.

Click here to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. Click here to make sure that you have the latest Critical Update patches for Windows. It's very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks.
