I have installed and run Norton Firewall, Norton Antivirus (even the coveted manual download that has extra definitions), AdAware, Spybot, CWShredderm WinPatrol, and now, HiJackThis. (The last two as per your suggestion in the FAQ, thank you for that!)

Everything that is supposed to let me know something is wrong seems to be saying that my system is clear, and aside from the usual monitor "flashes" that occur as soon as I install any sort of Windows Update, I don't seem to be experiencing any obvious adverse effects other than the fact that NetPal is STILL listed in my "Add/Remove Programs" directory and I still cannot remove it from there. When I click on the Change/Remove button, the screen does that quick flash, but it stays there on the list.

I've attached a copy of my HiJackThis log, and will be happy to answer any other queries that may help me figure out whether netpal is still lurking around or simply to get the remnants of it out of my ARP directory (index? What is the proper term for that?). If anyone spots anything else I should fix as well, I'd be quite grateful.

I so want to stop seeing the word NetPal, I'll even send a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies anywhere in the world to whoever helps me get rid of it for good!

Get and install Tweak UI from Microsoft.

http://www.microsoft...s/powertoys.asp

To install it, uncompress the program, then right-click tweakui.inf and hit Install.

Open up the Tweak UI control panel and click the Add/Remove tab. Choose Netpal from the list there and hit Remove. That'll remove it permanently.

You might want to remove this in HijackThis:

Close all programs, tick it for removal, and hit "Fix Checked."
