      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Can you please download HijackThis from this link, install it into C:\HJT. Run it, click on scan, save log and just accept the defaults. It should open in notepad. Click on "Edit" => "Select All' => "Edit" => "Copy" ... This puts it onto the clipboard. Come to this message, click on "Add Reply" and in the open message box, right click and select "Paste" and it should get pasted in.

Due to the number of infections that you have, can you please run through the following procedures and after you have completed them, reboot and post another HijackThis log into this message for further review:

  1. Run either of these free online virus scans.

[*]How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= Please check this link for instructions on how to download, install and then use adaware. Run this program as soon as possible.

[*]How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= Please check this link for instructions on how to download, install and then use spybot. Run this as soon as possible as it may catch things that adaware misses.

[*]Download, install and run Tojan Hunter (Trial)

One thing at a time :)

  1. Please create a new directory C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into that directory and only run it from there. That way we can ensure that we have the backup files available in the event that they are needed.
  2. Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".
  3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for "VCHXSRVC.EXE" & "RNAAPP.EXE". If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.
  4. Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit OK.
  5. Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service".
  6. When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then OK and close any open windows.
  7. Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and then place a check mark in the following boxes, And click on "Fix Checked":
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\TV MEDIA\TvmBho.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MDIAL32C] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MDIAL32C.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\SYSUPD.EXE
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [b1rmRWdpR] VCHXSRVC.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [TV Media] C:\PROGRAM FILES\TV MEDIA\TVM.EXE
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [TV Media] C:\PROGRAM FILES\TV MEDIA\TVM.EXE
  8. Reboot into Safe Mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?, and delete the following files:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VCHXSRVC.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RNAAPP.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACI.DLL
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\TV MEDIA <= Delete this directory
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MDIAL32C.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSUPD.EXE
    VCHXSRVC.EXE
  9. Go to Start => Run and type in "regedit" (without quotes) and press "Enter".
  10. One the registry opens, Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\__NS_Service_3
If __NS_Service_3 exists , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.
  11. Still in the registry, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY___NS_Service_3
If LEGACY___NS_Service_3 exists then right click on it and choose delete from the menu.
  12. Exit regedit and reboot in Normal Mode.
  13. Two files (Possibly three) were also deleted from your computer and need to be replaced.
    • control.exe - Go to Merijn Files (control) and download the version of control.exe for your operating system. If you are running Windows 2000, copy it to c:\winnt\system32\. For Windows XP, copy it to c:\windows\system32\.
    • Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.
    • If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go here: Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy)

[*]Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

ok, this took me a frustratingly long time to do, but i think i'm almost there.

i cannot to #'s 3, 4, 5, and 6. i could not find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SETT/SERVICES/. well, that part i found not the_NS_service_3. Also LEGACY was not found.

IN C:\windows/system/mdial32c.exe was not found, and also C:\windows/sysupd.exe. Also, when i deleted all of the files from hijackthis that you told me to I now have them all on my desktop as backups, is that right?

Here is my latest log

You missed step one in the instructions which is why you have the backups all over your desktop. What I would do, is to create the C:\HJT and move all the backups there - They might be needed in case a restore is in order.

Open up "My Computer" by double-clicking on the icon. You should see "C-Drive". Double click on it and you will see all the files and folders on your C-Drive. Click on "File" => "New" => "New Folder" and change them default name of "New Folder" to HJT.
