have you figured out the answer to this problem yet? I am having the exact same problem, but i am afraid to remove anything from my computer because aren't certain things that you need to "tick" different based on each computer? thanks! should i just hold out and wait for individual help, or does fixing this apply to everyon?

What should I kill? I've recently had some bad Google stuff and random popups and mild hijacking (Some sites go to different places than I wish)

Hi LookOutForTheWam,

Let's clean up the easy stuff first and see if that solves the problem.

First, Uninstall TV Media from Add/Remove Programs.

Next, run hijackthis again, click Scan. Check the boxes next to these entries. Then close all windows except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to 'Fix checked'.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
<---not really malware, but not needed at startup either

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lmnch] C:\WINDOWS\lmnch.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pqpsp] C:\WINDOWS\pqpsp.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cbenqfab] C:\WINDOWS\cbenqfab.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Configure your computer to show hidden files.

Then reboot your computer in safe mode and delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\lmnch.exe
C:\WINDOWS\pqpsp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cbenqfab.exe

Reboot your computer and cut and paste this into the address bar of Internet Explorer:
java script:navigator.userAgent

Copy the results and paste them in this thread, along with fresh hijackthis log.

Topics merged to here - stick to just one, please..

I'll see if I can get a specialist to have a look.

Sorry, won't do it again, but it's getting REALLY annoying and I'm desperate.

While we're waiting for OSC, would you try this please? Merijn has a beta for HijackThis 1.98. Warning - It is a beta and theoretically may have some bugs.
Link removed - not public yet. cnm

Unzip it into a permanent folder called c:\HT1.98\ or the like. Run it and post its log.

Also do Config->Misc Tools, "Open hosts file manager" and check for anything unusual.

I will be deleting that link after you reply, as it is not a public release.

Hi LookOutForTheWam (and cnm!),

Sorry LookOutForTheWam. I fell behind in some of my posts. :( Anyway, try cnm's suggestion and if that doesn't work, we'll do a manual removal out of the registry.

Nope, normal - localhost is your own PC and always has that IP for its own use.

But this is interesting:

O18 - Filter: text/html - {CC905FF6-B553-496C-9DFA-CFF65ADCD0FC} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdhmd.dll

I don't find that file on my Win XP. Will you please right-click on C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdhmd.dll and tell us any info you find in Properties.

Also you still have most of the things OSC told you to fix.
Please reboot into Safe mode (hit the F8 key several times while booting, until you get a menu). Run that new HT and fix the things OSC pointed out above:
http://www.spywarein...findpost&p=5045

Be sure to reboot after doing so.

I'm going to turn this back to OSC..

Thanks cnm. :)

LookOutForTheWam, please do those things that cnm said, then follow this carefully.

Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{CC905FF6-B553-496C-9DFA-CFF65ADCD0FC}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/html]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\searchrep.SearchRepPP\CLSID]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\searchrep.SearchRepPP.1\CLSID]

Click save as
save as filename:
clear.reg
under the filename set to all types.
save it to the desktop.
Close all Internet Explorer windows
double click the clear.reg
when asked to merge say yes.

Then go and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdhmd.dll
If it wont delete than reboot and delete it.

Finaly, post a fresh hijackthis log back into this thread.

I couldn't find those files in Safe Mode, and when I tried to follow your directions it messed up and said

Cannot import C:\docume~1\Thomas\Desktop\Clear.reg the specified file isn't registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

That's no good. :/

OH wait. I didn't save it to all types. Sorry, I screwed up.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stcinstaller] c:\installer\id53.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ares] "C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\My Documents\Ares\ares.exe" -h

these are looking suspicious imo.
Any idea what they are, LookOutForTheWam?

Nothing installs itself into My Documents unless you intentially put it there...
Also the installer looks semi-fishy, so check both programs' properties and let us know what the info shows.

LookOutForTheWam
Tick and fix this one:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stcinstaller] c:\installer\id53.exe
Reboot, then move the whole folder c:\installer\ to the recycle bin.

It would be a good idea to run an online virus scan now.

Well, Ares is my brother's P2P program. But apparently it came with some spyware that I thought I killed.... no idea what the other one is.... I'm guessing spyware. It was created today.

Yeah, you posted that while I was writing that... but I did it, and it worked fine. BTW the beta of HJT won't delete anymore, but an older version works fine.

What's your situation now? If everything seems to be OK after a while you can probably empty your Recycle Bin - but first tell us what all was in that c:\installer\ folder you put there. What files.
