Hi,

I recently navigated to a website that bypassed my popup blocker (myIE2 built in), opening up many popups, and attempted to install some activeX applications. I'm not sure if any were installed; I clicked "no" or closed each dialog box that came up asking me if I wanted to install software.

Now, I can't run any programs from the desktop (i.e. clicking on the desktop does nothing at all; there's no response from icons/folders). I also can't reach websites by typing in the address bar; a dialog box comes up each time, saying "make sure the path or Internet address is correct.." I can get to sites using quicklinks on the toolbar or through favorites.

I ran adaware 6, updated with the most recent definitions. 6 items were found, and I tried removing them, but the symptoms still exist.

The Hijackthis log is as follows:

Open task manager (alt+ctrl+del), then end task the following processes.
windll32.exe
iesy.exe
atlbs.exe

Move Hijackthis off your desktop (extract from zip)into a permanent folder. Example:
c:\program files\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe

This will allow backups to be made and saved By hijackthis in case something goes wrong.

Place a check next to the following entries, then close all open windows except hijackthis and click fix.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CE7F324C-E742-BF9B-37E5-A16FD8856B2C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\atldu32.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iesy.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iesy.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [windll32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\windll32.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete these files.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iesy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\windll32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atlbs.exe

You may have to enable hidden files to find all the files.

Then reboot into normal mode.

Run these free online virus scans.

Then reboot and run another hijackthis scan and post your new log here.

I believe the virus has been removed; I followed the instructions and ran both antivirus programs. However, my windows media player still does not work-- when I try to start it, a program error sound plays and nothing happens.

i think during the same time, my WMP also had a problem like yours.
what i did was, goto the root directory of WMP and search for a program (setup.exe?) to reinstall it. it worked fined afterwards.
