I need help with a persistant problem.

First:
I have updated Windows
I have updated and run Webroot SpySeeper
I have updated and run Spybot S&D
I have updated and run CWSShredder
I have updated and run Symantic Antivirus

Problem:
With Webroot Spysweeper I continually get "CAX Proxy detected" everytime I run it.

With Spybot S&D I get "DSO Exploits" everytime I run it.

I occasionally see extra IE tabs at the bottom of my screen that can't be opened with either "---Windows Internet Exploer" or "xlime.offeroptimizer.com" displayed if you hover the mouse over the tab briefly.

Related Questions I have:
Something must be running in my processes that keeps reinstalling it. Is there any good summary list of common Windows Processes so I can try to eliminate the good from the bad?

Here is my HJT file:

bump, If anyone can please help. I keep seeing these hidden IE tabs in the Start Bar (bottom of screen). They can't be opened and I can't help but think they are some sort of tracking adware. Somtimes two or three pop up down there. I have no other outward signs besides this and the fact Spybot and Spysweeper can't clear the DSO Exploits or CAX proxy. :wtf:

Judging how this site is getting about 50 posts an hour, I can't imagine the helpers can possibly keep up. I've tried experimenting with my log file and "fixed" some things I saw in other posts. If anyone happens to look at this, see what you think of my new file:

Hello,

Don't be concerned about the DSO Exploits in Spybot S & D. This is a known bug that should be fixed in their next program update.

Click here to download Ad-Aware and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Then click the gear wheel at the top and check these options to configure Ad-aware for a customized scan:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry," "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites," and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start." Make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green, then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next." The bad files will be listed. Right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - This will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?" Reboot when finished.

Next, perform an online virus scan at Trend Micro and an online Trojan scan at Sygate. (See links in my signature below). Allow each program to remove whatever it may find. NOTE: You may need to allow Sygate to have access through your firewall, or disable your firewall. If so, be sure you re-enable your firewall after the scan has completed. Reboot after each scan.

Scan with HJT and post a new log into this same thread, and we will work on the remaining issues in your log.

I downloaded Adaware, set it up exactly as you said, updated references, ran a complete scan, rebooted and scaned again. It found nothing. Can you tell me if my log file looks clean now?

poke,

Your log is looking pretty good.... there are just a few things left to clean up.

Right now, you have HijackThis in a temporary folder. Please create a new folder on the C: drive and name it C:\HJT or something similar. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select "New" then "Folder" and name it HJT.

Unzip HijackThis into the new folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fix checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary. Delete the old copy of HJT please.

NOTE: Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

Please run HijackThis in Safe Mode....

Reboot into safe mode, this way:
Restart the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

Place a check mark next to the following items then, WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, select “fix checked.” Please note that the items in BLUE are optional suggested fixes that will not remove the programs, only keep them from running at start-up, and may have the added benefit of freeing up some of your system’s resources.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sovoqfwmp] C:\WINDOWS\System32\xnbjzeyh.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Remain in Safe Mode and enable the ”Show Hidden Files and Folders” option:

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Now, search for, and delete if found, (some files may not be present after previous steps) the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\xnbjzeyh.exe < file

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\

C:\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select "delete all offline content."

Reboot.

Proceed to the Windows Update site (see link below) download and install ALL critical updates.

Reboot when finished.

I would suggest you clear your restore points now:

Turn off System Restore.

Right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Turn ON System Restore.

Right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Set a new restore point.

Scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log into this same thread.

You're very welcome. I'm happy we could help.

Your log is clean! Posted Image You can help to keep it that way by following these suggestions.....

Download IE-SPYAD here: http://www.staff.uiu...rce.htm#IESPYAD

It will place over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so that you don't accidentally visit innocent appearing sites that aren't really innocent.

Scan often with Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware to remove malware before it gains a foothold on your computer. (Links below). Install SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard to keep baddies from invading your system. (Links below).

Make sure you keep your system updated by frequent visits to the Windows Update site (see link below). Always install ALL critical updates.

Please take a minute or two to read the short article, "How did I get infected in the first place?" (See link in my signature below). You will find good information on keeping your system clean in the future, as well as links for excellent free anti-spyware tools.
