      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hi,

I've been trying for weeks to get about.blank (or searchx) off my computer. Wondering if you could recommend a solution - I've tried everything and can't get it off.

Thanks

Hi,

Looks like you had better deal with this one first!

wininet.exe = W32.Wotron.Worm

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...otron.worm.html

"Optionally stops personal firewall and antivirus products"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [system Update] C:\WINNT\System\wininet.exe

Follow the above instructions carefully, update and run a full system AV scan. Then visit Windows Update and install all the Critical Updates.

After the above post a fresh log ...

thanks.

OK - tried that. The wininet.exe file is still showing up in the Hijack This file. I've run Norton and nothing shows up. Also in the registry key the default value looks to be right. Can I remove this through Hijack This?

Here is the updated file.

Hi,

1) Restart in Safe Mode (see "How To:" below)

2) Enable Hidden Files (see "How To:" below)

Locate and delete the following:

C:\WINNT\System\wininet.exe <--this file

While still in Safe Mode:

Close all open windows, rescan with HijackThis and "Fix checked" the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [system Update] C:\WINNT\System\wininet.exe

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Restart normally and then ...

Download: Find-All.zip

http://www10.brinkster.com/expl0iter/freeatlast/pvtool.htm

Unzip, but do not run it yet, it will be needed later.

Download: WINFILE.zip

http://www10.brinkster.com/expl0iter/freeatlast/pvtool.htm

Unzip, but do not run it yet, it will be needed later.

Download: Registrar Lite [freeware]

http://www.resplendence.com/download

Install, but do not run it yet, it will be needed later.

Double-click the included "Find-All.bat" file from Find-All.zip.

Generates: "output.txt"

Note: if infected you will see:

Locked file(s) found...

C:\WINDOWS\System32\<filename> +++ File read error

Where "<filename>" is the hidden invisable installer.

Note: "+++ File read error" is not an error, this just identifies the culprit.

Post the contents of "output.txt" into your next post ...

Hi,

Can you locate:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\NetInst\NiAMH.dll"

Right-click and select: Properties | Version

Report back with any info found, as this does not appear to be CWS related.

What else is in this folder:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\NetInst

Is this something you installed?

The file (Netinstall) has been installed by my office so it should be legit. My browser don't default to about:blank anymore ... ido you know if everything is cleaned up?

Hi,

do you know if everything is cleaned up?

Your log should be clean ... as long as you or your office put those entries in the "Trusted Zone".
