I left my computer open, when I came back, Trend seemed to have found an inbound virus of sorts. Ever since that, it's been pop-up / ad-ware / hijack hell. Oh, and you have to enjoy "zestyfind"!

I have run: CW Shredder, Hijack This, LSPFix, Xclean_Micro, Ad-aware 6, Spybot SD, and Spy sweeper.

I've tried to delete all the R1 items. They come back. I'm also getting multiple .exe files (seen through Task manager, like "rem2.exe) that I'm sure are from malware.

First of all could you click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done.

If not listed there, click here, download and run this uninstaller. Reboot when done.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log.

Let's check to see if you have been infected by the L2M parasite. Please do this:

Click here to download the VX2Finder.exe tool. Click on the VX2Finder.exe and then click on the Click to Find VX2.Betterinternet button. It will display the files, the Guardian Key and User Agent string. Now click the Make Log button. It will open the log in notepad. Copy and paste that log here and wait for further instructions.

I could not even function, so I ended up doing a system restore. I think everything is back to normal. I did run VX2 Finder after the restore, and it was clean. Here is my new log:

Your log is OK. Sorry we didn't fix you up before your restore.

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?
