      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

I'm some-what computer savvy...any info on junk that i can get rid of on top of the Res:// issue (does it have a name yet?) would be grately appreciated.

I dont use window's messenger...but it likes to run without me opening it or starting it (no icon in the bottom corner either). I finally just blocked it with sygate. the norton AV is expired...need to uninstall it once i get this stuff cleared up.

Thanks Phantom

Well, I'm not the Phamous Phantom, so I hope I'll do! I do have the procedure that he detailed for us over in Boot Camp, so I guess I can be a Pseudo Phantom.

  1. Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for "wincu32.exe" & "ipax32.exe". If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.
  3. Next, go to Start->Run and type Services.msc then click OK.
  4. Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service".
  5. When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then OK and close any open windows.
  6. Run HijackThis, click on Scan and then place a check mark in the following boxes:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ykdfm.dll/sp.html#96676

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ykdfm.dll/index.html#96676

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ykdfm.dll/index.html#96676

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ykdfm.dll/sp.html#96676

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = res://ykdfm.dll/index.html#96676

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ykdfm.dll/sp.html#96676

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [winnb32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winnb32.exe

You have PowerReg Scheduler in your log. This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some people think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it.

    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Click on Fix Checked and then close HijackThis.

  7. Reboot into Safe Mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?, and delete the following files:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ykdfm.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\d3ay32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipax32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wincu32.exe

  8. Go to Start => Run and type in regedit and press Enter.
  9. Once the registry opens, Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\__NS_Service_3
If __NS_Service_3 exists , right click on it and choose Delete from the menu.
  10. Still in the registry, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY___NS_Service_3
If LEGACY___NS_Service_3 exists then right click on it and choose Delete from the menu.
  11. Exit regedit and reboot in Normal Mode.
  12. Two files (Possibly three) were also deleted from your computer and need to be replaced.
    • control.exe - Go to Merijn Files (control) and download the version of control.exe for your operating system. If you are running Windows 2000, copy it to c:\winnt\system32\. For Windows XP, copy it to c:\windows\system32\.
    • Download the Hoster from here. Press Restore Original Hosts and press OK. Exit the Program.
    • If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go here: Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing your Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy)

[*]Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Give this a try. It's been successful in some (but not all) cases of this particular CWS variant.

Download sphjfix107.zip from:

http://www.rokop-security.de/main/download...op=getit&lid=59

Unzip it and run it and let me know how it goes.

And if it's not successful, don't give up - we WILL beat this thing!

FIXED!!

thanks for your reply's fireflyer...but it was ad-aware.

You may want to sticky this. I went to run ad-aware just for the heck of it (sphjfix107.zip couldnt find anything), and i got a new reference file. 01R324 22.06.2004. It found 13 files, and in them were coolwebsearch crap. Deleted them, and that browser hijack is totally gone. Ran hijack this and 3 of the original R1/R0 things were still there, so i check/fixed them, and all systems are go.

Ad-aware does it again...i love that program! ad-aware fixed the res:// homepage hijack.

here is my log, any other bad stuff there that i dont konw about?

Yes, Ad-aware's a great program - it does a lot, and they release new fixes quite often. If it takes care of this particular hijack now, that will be a real boon to us all.

Your log looks clean, congratulations!

Now you get my prevention speech:

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad if you do not already have them installed.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:

SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at:

IE/Spyad:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

Keep your AV up to date, and look into using a firewall - there are a couple of good, free, ones in my sig. I use Kerio myself.
