I have read the FAQs, and I have downloaded HiJackThis and SpyBot S&D. I have posted my HiJackThis log below. I was able to clean a couple of things with SpyBot S&D, and I am also running SpySweeper, but it found nothing.

I also get an error on boot that says the system cannot find monitor.exe.

I am trying to download CWSShredder, but have been unable to get a copy due to the server issues at the moment.

Any advice would be great!

I believe I have removed/fixed the homepage issues with SpyBot, Ad-Aware, CWSShredder, HiJackThis, etc...

However, I am still seeing this odd error message upon reboot related to monitor.exe.

I also see this is my HiJackThis log...

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [monitor] Explorer.exe monitor.exe

Any idea on what this is?

monitor.exe:
Application that helps in monitoring Windows NT Server Performance. Monitor.exe runs from the command line on your local workstation. You use this service to start, stop, and set up the Datalog service on the target server.
(From liutilities site)

I am not sure BUT someone may be monitoring what you are doing on your PC or something else with that...But I'm not sure.

Full info about it(from liutilities site):

monitor - monitor.exe - Process Information

Process File: monitor or monitor.exe
Process Name: Monitor
Description: Application that helps in monitoring Windows NT Server Performance. Monitor.exe runs from the command line on your local workstation. You use this service to start, stop, and set up the Datalog service on the target server.
Company: Microsoft Corp.
System Process: Yes
Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): No
Common Errors: N/A

Additional Information: For more information about monitor (monitor.exe) and other Windows processes Order WinTasks 4 Professional!

Process Removal: If you have WinTasks installed, you can easily remove this process by selecting it and clicking on "stop". Order WinTasks 4 Professional!
(I did also paste that WinTasks 4 Professional ad because I want to advertise it :p)

I think that it doesn't exist and the error comes BECAUSE it doesn't exist in your system. If you want to get rid of that, remove it from startup with RegCleaner or some other registry editing tool.(I'm not sure if the monitor.exe is reguired on XP.I don't have it running.)

Hey!

I am still having issues a few days later... I have re-read the FAQ, and I have installed, updated and run SpyBot, Ad-Aware, SpySweeper along with NAV and Zone Alarm.

My CPU usage keeps jumping up to 100 percent for no reason, and IE seems to lock up for no reason too.

In addition, my Search Companion has stopped working and I still get some odd error message on boot about not being able to find monitor.exe

Here is my latest HJT log... could someone please take a look and let me know if you see anything that could be causing a problem.

Thanks!
