      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hi,

I seem to be having a problem with errorplace, as others here have as well. I'm getting very poor performance with IE as well. I've read the FAQ and done what I could from there, have run ad-aware, spybot, spysweeper, and have zone alarm and symantec anti-virus in place. I ran HiJack This, and was able to fix one item, but others remain that I'm unsure of. One thing I notice is that something called ROING keeps popping up even after I have cleaned it up. This PC used to be pretty clean, but my kids have been using it, and I'm not exactly sure what they've been downloading. Anyway, here is my Hijack log, and thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi,

Please follow directions as you are now infected all over again!

Do not use BHODemon to "disable" the entries as you can see below it does not work.

Close all open windows, except for HijackThis place a check in each of the following:

Then click "Fix checked".

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {25A6D61E-894E-4AAB-A5F1-92FFED2E2231} - C:\WINDOWS\jgkolj.dll (disabled by BHODemon)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B4C9EFBF-A83D-45D5-99A9-1B1785773D06} - C:\WINDOWS\lzmpii.dll (disabled by BHODemon)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {25A6D61E-894E-4AAB-A5F1-92FFED2E2231} - C:\WINDOWS\jgkolj.dll

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B4C9EFBF-A83D-45D5-99A9-1B1785773D06} - C:\WINDOWS\lzmpii.dll

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C5183ABC-EB6E-4E05-B8C9-500A16B6CF94} - C:\Program Files\SEP\sep.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xAYF8] C:\documents and settings\funnymonk\local settings\temp\xAYF8.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [5YH33CB4WLEDNE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\XkvA.exe

Then reboot, on restart, restart in Safe Mode (see "How To" below)

Start | Run (type) "%temp%" (no quotes)

Completely delete the entire contents of that "temp" folder.

Open Windows Explorer locate and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\jgkolj.dll <--this file

C:\WINDOWS\lzmpii.dll <--this file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\XkvA.exe <--this file

C:\Program Files\SEP <--this folder

Restart normally and then run Ad-Aware and reboot.

On restart rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log ...

Hi,

Sorry I screwed up. I had tried BHODemon after I did my initial post, trying to figure out what was going on (it was suggested elsewhere in the forum). Learned my lesson :-)

I've done what you suggested (exactly, I think, as you suggested), and here's my latest Hijack log.

BTW, while my temp file was empty, and most of the Windows folder dlls were already gone, I did notice something called "sepsd.bin" in the Windows folder. It wasn't on your list, so I left it alone. Should I be suspicious of it?

Thanks, and I'll do my best to follow your instructions better from here on. Promise :-)

Ron

Hi,

Your log is clean now ... good job!

I did notice something called "sepsd.bin" in the Windows folder.

While I have no idea what that file is ... you can check the "Date created" via Windows Explorer. Right-click the file and select: Properties.

To check for any leftovers ...

Open Windows Explorer, click View (up top) select: Details

Then select: View > "Arrange Icons by" > Modified

This should sort the files with the newest at the top, look for any others that were at or near the same Date as the infection.

Create a C:\Junk folder and "move" any suspicious files to that folder.

[Example] "sepsd.bin" I would suspect to be from "C:\Program Files\SEP\sep.dll"

Anyway ... last step:

Start | Run (type) cleanmgr

Select the following:

1) Temporary Internet Files

2) Recycle Bin

3) Temporary Files

When completed ... "Flush System Restore" (see "How To" below)

Basically turn off System Restore, reboot, run a full (updated) NAV scan, reboot and turn System Restore back on and create a new Restore Point.

How To: Configure Norton AntiVirus to scan all files

I would suggest adding some "Defense" to your system ...

How To: Prevent this from happening again?

Mike,

Thanks a lot for the help. Doing the followup steps now and will be looking at the "how to prevent" articles shortly.

Appreciate your time in helping me get things cleaned up.

Ron
