Just to say I'm suffering EXACTLY the same here, along with Finny and Olight by the looks of it. I'll start my own thread tonight when I run HijackThis on my home PC (which is the one suffering).

You get the sp.html file and registry entries being run off a phony dll file (in the last post by Roobarb it's pbnee.dll), you clear them out and you think everything is okay... and then the fucking thing returns shortly down the line (and the dll file is a different name)! Driving me nuts...

Spybot and Norton AV get nothing. My firewall is locked down very tightly and nothing pops up wanting to come in/out so I'm thinking it's something already on the system reapplying the problem sometime after it's fixed.

Help definitely appreciated here!

Ditto. Been fighting this one for several days now. Tried damn near everything but I keep getting those strange search pages coming back. I've run Ad-Aware with the latest updates, SpyBot S&D with the latest defs, uninstalled MS Java and Sun Java, all Windows updates are current, tried Aluria's SpyWare Eliminator, tried WebRoot's SpySweeper (which found several CWS items and cleaned them), set the BHO keys to have no rights, dumped the temp folders and cache, did a full virus scan with Sophos...

Nothing seems to help. The problem keeps coming back. I even did a search on the system for all files within the last few days. Lots of files, but nothing really suspicious.

HJT usually shows nothing suspicious, yet I enter in a dummy URL and I get to one of the CWS search pages (at least I'm assuming that they're CWS). And my default page becomes About:Blank.

I'm pulling my hair out.

And what's REALLY strange is I can't get to www.merijn.org tonight. No matter WHAT computer I use, it keeps coming back as 127.0.0.1 (even systems outside my office I'm going to remotely).

When I do an IPCONFIG /displayDNS, I wind up with a bunch of entries pointing to 127.0.0.1. Clear the cache and they're still there. Merijn is NOT on the list, though, and not in the HOSTS file.

Roobarb, Well done!
Your bad file is positively identified on all counts!
This will take couple or more steps to fix.
Be sure to Follow the next set of steps carefully, in
the exact order specified:

-Open the FINDnFIX\Keys1 Subfolder!
- Locate the "MOVEit.bat" file, Right-Click on it,select->edit:
The file will open as empty text file.
-Copy and paste the entire hilited line in the following quote box
(all one line) into that blank 'MOVEit' file:

move %WinDir%\System32\D3DDP.DLL %SystemDrive%\junkxxx\D3DDP.DLL

-Save the file and close.

*Get ready to restart your computer:
-In the same folder, DoubleClick on the "FIX.bat" file.
You will be prompted by popup -Alert to restart in 15 seconds.
-Allow it to restart the computer!

-On restart, Navigate to:
C:\FINDnFIX\ main folder:
-DoubleClick on the "RESTORE.bat" file.

It'll run and produce new log. (log1.txt) post it here!

Great progress! :thumbsup:

Last step(s):

-Open the FINDnFIX\Files2< Subfolder:
Run the -> "ZIPZAP.bat" file.
It will quickly clean the rest and
will make a copy of the bad file(s) in the same
folder (junkxxx.zip) and open your email client with instructions:
Simply drag and drop the 'junkxxx.zip' file from
the folder into the mail message and submit
to the specified addresses! Thanks!

When done, Delete and entire 'FINDnFIX' file+folder(s)
From C:\

As for the remains, run any and all
removal tools once again as they should work properly now!
In particular, CWShredder.exe and fully updated Ad-Aware!
Feel free to post follow up hijackthis log when done! :)

No reason to panic! :D

That file (pacapcaa.tmp) is a temp file
created by my tools, and at times still inuse...

Simply restart your computer and you should be
able to delete the 'FINDnFIX' folder+it's
Subfolders and contents.

In hijackthis fix this trail:

*R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\

Consider yourself Blank-free! :cool:

Hey Freeatlast, are you gonna be around later on. I'm at work right now but my computer at home is doing the same thing. I've tried everything and nothing seems to get that damn about:blank off my system. Should I try that findnfix and post the log? Can you take a look at it? HELP!!!
