Hi to all at the list.

I have a problem that I have tried to sort at other forums but they have been unable to help despite their best efforts i can also confirm that I am not using any other forum than your at present to try at sort this problem out.

ok, the problem is that I have an application named com3.exe which for starters my norton antivirus hangs on and will not complete a scan. This file will not delete by any means and different forums have tried all sorts of tools to try and sort it out. I beleive this application is responsible for making every normal application that I run use excessive CPU usage. For example when I try and run Spybot it will use 100% of CPU usage and the Computer gets very noisy which sounds like the fan kicking in.

The only tool previously that had an effect on this ? virus was Swandog46's tool Avenger. This actually moved the application from its original location (Common Files/Services) to a backup Avenger file but all the original problems still persist and within that folder is still the actual com3.exe file which I still cannot delete.

I hope my ramblings make sense to one of you kind souls out there who can help be with this very persistant problem.

I have included logs for Avenger, Hijackthis, AVG and KASPERSKY online scan which identified the file in question as a locked file.

Best Regards

Springer

As a first step, would you find the file C:\fiexctcu.bat, and open it in notepad please. Then copy and paste it into a reply here.
Be wary of strong drink. It may make you shoot at tax collectors, and miss!

That's OK, not a malicious script, just the coded version of the avenger script.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.
[b]
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yilanpah] C:\fiexctcu.bat
[b]
Reboot and delete

Files
C:\fiexctcu.bat

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.

TRy rebooting into safe mode, and then finding the file in explorer. Right click on it and check the properties. If the read only attribute is checked, remove the checkmark, and try deleting the file.

Hi

Rebooted in safe mode. File not read only attribute but still will not delete. States 'cannot find the specified file'.

Download Killbox from here
Unzip and run it. In the box "full path of file to delete", type avenger/com3.exe. Click on the button standard file kill, and click the red "X" button.

Try this method. Go to Start> run, and copy/ paste the command in bold into the run box.

del \\.\c:\avenger\com3.exe

Then hit enter. That should do it!

tried that came up as 'windows cannot find 'del' make sure you typed the name correctly.

I copied and pasted the command that you stated. Noticed if it makes a difference that it did not appear in bold in the run box!

You got me excited for a moment thought you might have cracked it!

OK, there is another way. Go to Start> run again, and type CMD followed by enter.
This will open a "dos box" with a prompt. At the prompt, type the command

del \\.\c:\avenger\com3.exe

Tried that and it could not locate the file so I went to look for it and the file com3.exe is no longer there!
Did a search for the application on my computer and I cannot now find it anywhere. However the problem with the high CPU usage persists and I am left totally confused. Athough the Avenger file is now empty, containing no files I an unable to delete that folder as it states it is in use by another application which again throws me. Perhaps the com3.exe was not the problem after all?

Thank you very much for all your help should we now close this query and perhaps I should open a new one reference the CPU problem.

What are your thoughts.

May as well continue here. As regards the high CPU usage, what process is showing up in task manager as using a large amount of cpu time?

Sorry only just realised that you replied to my last post.

Thats the strange thing the CPU increases with all applications that I use from Spybot, norton antivirus or even microsoft powerpoint and often hits 100% and stays there (in task manager) making the computer unsable at times.
