Hello, this is my first post in the SWI forums. I hope I didn't do any of this wrong.

Problem:
Very sluggish computer performance. Sometimes some programs, such as my Internet browser (FireFox) or iTunes would freeze up. Start menu takes about 10 - 20 seconds to load all the programs. When I'm on the Internet, random new tabs (windows) would be made automatically trying to persuade me to order various anti-virus software. I would also get random pop-ups. I have also noticed that from the time that I turn on my computer to the time that the computer runs at 100% speed, it takes roughly 5 - 10 minutes.

Now, I don't know that much about computers, but here's my system info:

Dell DIMENSION DIM4600
Inter®
Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz
2.79 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

If I'm correct, then a computer with those specs. should run faster than what I'm experiencing right now. I could be easily wrong though.

This is the HijackThis log that I ran today:

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hello,

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Optional - VIEWPOINT MANAGER
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.co...cle.php/3561546
Additional info: http://vil.nai.com/v...nt/v_137262.htm
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar
Your call.

=*=

Please download Atribune's VundoFix.exe from this site:
http://www.atribune..../click.php?id=4 and place it on your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Click the Scan for Vundo button.

Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.

You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files,
click YES

Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing
Vundo.

When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer,
click OK.

=*=

Open your Control Panel in *Add/Remove Programs* look for the following

Think-Adz Search Assistant
Enhanced Ads by Think-Adz
Surfsidekick
Oin
Yazzle by Oin
YazzleActiveX By OIN
Purityscan by Oin
Snowballwars by Oin
Cowabanga by OIN
(Anything) by OIN
Zolero
Tizzletalk
MediaTickets
Cowabanga
outerinfo

and any other programs you didn't install or don't recognize - if your not sure please ask first

If found, click on it and click remove.

Do not restart the computer

Then, download and run this OiUninstaller.exe uninstaller: follow the instructions on this page.
http://www.outerinfo.com/howto.html

=*=

Disable Spyware Doctor:
Please disable Spyware Doctor, as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Spyware Doctor:
  • Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
  • Uncheck Run at Windows startup.
  • Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Spyware Doctor.

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
