      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hi,

I'm having problems with my computer locking up on start up (after the desktop is displayed). It also freezes when transfering files etc. Usually when I turn it off to re-boot, it shows an explorer.exe error. I just ran Hijack this and the log is as follows:

Hello,

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from this site:

http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch, if not launch it. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/4056/ftp...302/Coupons.cab

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.122 85.255.112.169

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you need to restart your computer again.

Note:

If you have problems with your internet connection after this fix, try this.

Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:

ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: check.gif
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Let me know what problem persist.

The error message "C:\WINDOWS\System32\AUTOEXEC.NT missing " can be corrected by following the instructions here.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324767

If you do not have the Windows CD then get this fix.

http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/xp_fix.exe

It replaces missing AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT, and COMMAND.COM.

Nice Work your log is clean.

Please read this Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
