      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Stupid b*astard thing...

Hi guys,

For a few days now I've been battling with an infection. Usually I have no problem dealing with this myself, although this time I'm afraid it's got the better of me. Although I think I've got rid of the worst of it now, there are still some traces left (BHO & Winlogon notify) that keep re-adding themselves and I'm at a loss.

I have run the following programs already:

Norton Anti-V/Internet security (2003)

Windows Defender (lol)

Ad-Aware

AVG-Anti-V

AVG-Anti-Route

Spybot

Vundofix

Ewido_micro

Each has found & removed different items, but all are now reporting a clean system. I then ran HiJackThis, removed all the dodgy entries and thought all was well. However, having run the HJT scan again out of curiosity I've found several entries are being re-added. I'm aware that loaded DLL's can do this, but I can find no trace of the files themselves in order to run Boxkill etc, so I'm starting to wonder if there may be something I've missed? Please find my HJT log file below. I've highlighted the problem entries I'm aware of. Is there something I'm missing?

Hello,

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

These protection tool are the reason you cannot clean your log. Execute this.

Disable TeaTimer:

Please disable TeaTimer as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.

To disable TeaTimer:

  • Run Spybot-S&D
  • Go to the Mode menu , and make sure "Advanced Mode " is selected
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer " and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable TeaTimer again.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:

We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

No, I lied. After the initial reboot a rescan confirmed the entries were gone. However, after a second reboot (removing AVG) the entries have reappeared. Could this be anything to do with system restore?

The entries are still returning.

I rebooted twice = fine.

Disabled restore & rebooted = fine.

Re-enabled restore & rebooted = fine.

Then I restarted real time protecting in both Win-defender and Spybot and the entries reappeared. I'll have another go and restore them one at a time to see which is responsible. Any suggestions?

It would seem that it was SpyBot that was re-adding the entries whenever real-time protection was re-enabled.

I un-installed Spybot from the system, removed the entries, rebooted, and then downloaded and re-installed the latest version.

So far the entries haven't re-appeared. I'll keep you updated.
