Are there an specific sites and/or programs that install coolwebsearch on your computer? I have been reading peoples posts about coolwebsearch and really want to avoid getting the nasty thing on my computer.

There are many, but it's almost impossible to list them all.
I would refer to cws_domains.txt, which can be accessed by running CWShredder like this:
Place it at C:\.
Go to Start - Run and type the following, then hit Enter:
C:\cwshredder.exe /debug
There's also the little thing about _NOT USING INTERNET EXPLORER_ that kinda stops CWS dead in its tracks. If you use Netscape, K-Meleon, Firefox, Opera, Lynx - anything other than IE - you're safe unless you install it manually.

Well, I guess it does. There are 1242 blocked CWS sites in the list in Spywareblaster. :o

It blocks the ones that are installed via ActiveX. There are others...

In regards to cnm's comment, I've seen a few crack sites load CWS variants when you click the button to download the files they stock.
In that case. you're not safe even if you use Firefox, because you're initiating it yourself.
