Reinstalling IE 7 took care of the favorites icon problem  but didn't help the Installer popup problem.

When the Windows Installer pops up what .msi file is it looking for?

Any other information on that popup would also help.

Is it still happening on every web page you view?

A dialog box comes up saying "Please wait while Windows configures ChromaPix SSTV Workstation." (the program has been deleted as well as all registry entries). It doesn't state what .msi file it's looking for. It always fails, then a dialog box comes up saying, "Internal Error 2718 {67C950A9-8361-11D4-892B-00E0-8908519}. The popup doesn't appear quiet as often since I used RArepair to reinstall a new DUN (at least not on every single webpage). But it seems to popup especially on forum pages (pops up on every forum webpage change). When it pops up IE is locked up until I click on the "Cancel" button on the 1st popup box or the "OK" button in the "Internal Error" box. No popups at all when using another browser.

Download the Registry Search Tool from here:
http://www.billsway....les/RegSrch.zip

Unzip to your Desktop and double click on regsrch.vbs
(if you have script protection, please allow this to run)

In the dialog that opens enter the following:
67C950A9-8361-11D4-892B-00E0-8908519

Press 'OK'

The search will run for a while then alert you when it is finished.

Press 'OK' and copy the contents of the WordPad window and post in this thread.

As a final suggestion you either live with it or re install ChromaPix SSTV Workstation making sure to follow the installation correctly and a restart of the computer after the installation.

I found my ChromaPix installation files and when I ran it an option came up to uninstall the program ( thought I had already done that!). I checked that option, the program did its thing and, after 6 months of frustration, the popup has DISAPPEARED!!!!!!

:boing: :boing: :bounce: :bounce: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :bounce: :bounce: :boing: :boing:

One more question before we wrap this thing up: this machine seems somewhat slow. I think there's 2 major contributing factors:

1. Out of 512MB memory installed, only 382MB are usable (bet this is the main one).

2. I haven't defragmented my hard drive since before the virus problem. I was waiting to do that when this machine was cured (as it now seems to be! )

What else can I do to improve this?

Good news.

You should see about getting some more RAM if the computer is worth it.

Take a look at this page created by miekiemoes, one of the Global Moderators here, on slow systems, and some things you can try to do to try to improve it:

I have looked at the link you gave me, but now I have found 2 problems; my DVD drive will not work nor will my RAS Async Adapter. :weep: Tried going to Device Manager to fix the problem and it reports for the DVD a Code 39 error exists and for the RAS Async Adapter there is a Code 31 error. It states that the driver for the DVD could be either missing or corrupted and for the RAS Async Adapter it says Windows cannot load the driver. Uninstalling them both and then reinstalling will not work. Device Manager states that it can't uninstall the RAS Async Adapter because it's needed for the computer to boot. Just had a thought (it's late at night here). Let me try using System Restore to restore to a time before I deleted ChromaPix and let you know what happens......

I went back to before I uninstalled ChromaPiix and even before I reinstalled IE 7. Didn't help. I hope this isn't a hardware failure problem. :gah:

Look at code 39 on this page.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123

Could be that your RAM or your hard drive are causing this lost of drivers.

Uninstalling and reinstalling my DVD driver did not work, and Windows says it cannot uninstall my RAS Async Adapter because it may be needed to boot the computer. :gah:

I'm out of ideas.

I suggest you get a techinican to check your computer for RAM and Hard drive failure.

It may be also that you have some hardware conflict that would be indicated by a Yellow Exclamation mark on your control panel/system tool. You will have to check all the the items.

Would reinstalling Windows finally fix all problems with this machine? :scratchhead: I was trying to get out of that but if you think it will work I"ll do it. I'll just have to reinstall my programs I guess (as bad as I hate to :grrr: ). I just discovered I have the majority of them on CDROM ( I did have the forthought to do that  ), and I guess I can find what I don't have and just download the installation program for them. I have found that the majority of them are free, so it's not a really big deal with them. If reinstalling Windows doesn't work (or won't work) I'll just have to take it to a technician :techsupport: when I can get the money. The DVD and the RAS Async Adapter were working just fine about a week ago, that's what is sooo aggravating :grrr: .

I wonder if I remove some programs and desktop icons that it might give me more memory so that Windows may be able to load those 2 drivers? :scratchhead: What else can I do to maximize my memory?

Download the trial version of RamCleaner.

http://www.filedudes...nload-8926.html

If your performance is better then you may decide to buy the program.

I have deleted some unused programs and some unused icons from my desktop. RamCleaner did no good; DVD and RAS Async Adapter still will not work :ugh: . Plus for some reason Spyware Guard will not run now. A dialog box comes up saying "Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object." What I deleted should not have had anything to do with Spyware Guard. So starting next Monday I will reinstall Windows; no need in putting it off any longer, doing anything else, or trying to get out of doing it :weep: (will be out of town for the weekend starting tommorow). Please bear with me; it will take some time to do it right. Thanks for your patience and your help!

Well nasdaq, life has gotten in the way of my reinstalling Windows. Things have come up and I haven't gotten even a good start on working on this thing. I might be able to finish it by the end of next week, or maybe not. Guess the best thing to do is to close this topic and if I have any problems just log back in and start a new one. Thanks to you and all the others for your help!!
