Hi,
We have bought a second hand dell computer, at first it started then it stopped, after a long time we realised that the computer has to be on (blank screen and cant do anything) for around 7 minutes then we can reset it and it will work perfectly. I have included a Hijack this Log, just incase.
Thanks,
Michael.

Hi,

Your log is clean.

From what you are describing I would bet that you are having hardware problems.

Leave the computer powered ON for the next few days. If all is well in that time frame then definitely hardware problems.

The capacitors or resistors must be wormed up. Heat makes the connections expand and when hot enough they operate well.

Keep me posted.

Hi nasdaq,
Yeah i thought it was a hardware problem :(
The computer is fine when it is on for just when you have to start it, its the problem.

The computer was on for at least 6 hours yesterday...

So i should leave it on for 3 days or so?

Thanks for the reply,
Michael

Hi nasdaq,
While my sister was on here avira came up and said that there is a virus on here.
Two different virus's came up, they were...

Virus or unwanted program 'JS/Dldr.IFrame.CS [virus]'
detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\D00W6YCS\dd[1].htm.
Action performed: Deny access

and

Virus or unwanted program 'JS/Dldr.IFrame.CS [virus]'
detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\D00W6YCS\dd[1].htm.
Action performed: Deny access

i decided to try adaware and it came up with nine virus's, they were all host files or something like that, but i can delete them

Here is my new hijack this file ---

The log is clean.

The bad files are in the Internet Files Folder. Run this tool and Clean the Temporary files.

Download: CCleaner (freeware)
http://www.majorgeek...wnload4191.html
Run the installer, and uncheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar (unless you want Yahoo toolbar).
Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows [tab]
The following should be selected by default, if not, please select:
Posted Image
Next: click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit

Open Windows Explorer and try to delete the dd.htm and dd[1].htm files.

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\D00W6YCS\dd[1].htm

If you do not find them then it's a false positive from Avira.

However Avira may be finding some remnant items in the registry.

Download the Registry Search Tool from here:
http://www.billsway....les/RegSrch.zip

Unzip to your Desktop and double click on regsrch.vbs
(if you have script protection, please allow this to run)

In the dialog that opens enter the following:
dd[1].htm

Press 'OK'

The search will run for a while then alert you when it is finished.

Press 'OK' and copy the contents of the WordPad window and post in this thread.

Repeat the search for this string.
dd.htm

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
Look at this tutorial if assistance is needed.

As in this link you may have a bad driver or a wrong version.
http://www.techspot....ws/t-43077.html

Did you install any new Hardware/software just before the problem started.?

You downloaded a lot of programs on Nov. 10. See the SDFix log.

Hi nasdaq,
I probably did install a new driver, i just cant remember
I looked at the sd fix log, i don't remember installing that many things, if any..
Can we get rid of these drivers or uninstall the updated version?
This error is getting really annoying :techsupport:
Thanks Nasdaq!!!!!!

I found a fix for Windows XP SP2

http://forums.mwti.n...94b1efc94224075

Go to Start - Run and type %Windir%\INF then press enter.
In Windows Explorer go to Tools - Folder Options - View Tab and uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”.
Find the sr.inf file, right click on it and select Install.
Or simply type or paste the following command into the Start - Run box and press enter.
rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf <- this will not work if the sr.inf file is not of the latest version. Do not try it.

If the Files Needed dialog box appears, click Browse and point to one of these locations:

You have SP 3 installed and I'm do not know if you have the CD or it was updated via Internet.

I suggest for now that you only look in this i386 folder and if sr.inf is present then run it.
The C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder if the systems has been updated to Service Pack 2 or 3.

Make sure you can see hidden files and folders.

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Can you find it now?

Thats a false positive.

Why are these processes running?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.execf
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.execf
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.execf
C:\32788R22FWJFW\grep.cfexe

They come from the Combofix tool which I did not ask you to run.

If you have the tool I suggest your remove it.

Time for some housekeeping
The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:
