I have an Inspiron 531 OS is Vista and after an update a while back it would no longer recognize my sd card. I tried a restore and it did not work. The driver is listed as a teac usb HS-SD Card Usb Device. The new card i am trying to use is a San Disk SDHC 4gb card.Do need a driver update?
I tried a search first and could not find a relating topic.

Thanks

Make sure you have Vista SP 2 which has hardware related updates.

Please run the Dell Driver Manager.

As I understand it, the card reader may need an updated driver.

Thanks for the speedy response.

I downloaded SP2 vista update but it would not open. I will try again. I run the driver manager, which I had done previously before posting. It says I have 9 drivers out of date.

I will try and load the sp2 again. I am sure you know the driver manager is a pay service through Norton. Does it make sense that they change drivers on the OS and you have to pay to update them.

I know just enough about computers to ask questions like the one above :) Catch my drift.

No, I didn't know it was a pay service.

Some SP 2 troubleshooting: http://windowsfixup....-install-fixes/

Better check for malware.

  • Please download and install the free program Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Follow the directions here to run a complete system scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and please post the report from the scan! We will want to see it.

  • DDS

    Posted Image

Please download DDS and save it to your Desktop from here or here
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • Please save both reports to your Desktop.
  • Please post the contents of the DDS.txt log. We need it to diagnose and fix malware problems - we may ask for Attach.txt later. We ask for the DDS log because HijackThis is not very effective on 64-bit PCs.
Next:

  • HijackThis
  • Please download the most updated version of HijackThis. The current version is 2.0.4..
  • If you download the Executable version please make sure to place it in a permanent folder. HijackThis makes backups of anything fixed and the backups might be deleted accidentally if the program is run from a temporary folder.
  • Run HijackThis, click "Scan and Save Log", and save the logfile produced. Please do not fix any entries with HijackThis unless a helper tells you to. Most of the entries in the log will be legitimate, or even critical to the operation of your computer.
  • Security Check
  • Finally, please download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Please copy/paste all logs into your post unless specifically asked to attach one.

My daughter just informed me that the computer is also not recognizing her i-pod. I finnaly got the vista sp2 package to open and it said i already had it installed. I have been trying to keep up with updates. I removed ad-aware I did not know it was scanning real time and I could not find where to disable it when needed. I am running Avast.

Malwarebytes removed one infected file it had been a while since I had run a malwarebyte scan:

It has nothing to do with your problem, I think, but you need to do these updates for your security:

Update your Adobe Reader (uncheck the optional box)

Updating Java:
  • Go here and download the latest version of Java:
  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
They should have this icon next to any that are there: Posted Image
Select any found and choose Uninstall.
  • Then install the version you downloaded earlier.

This could be the word about your 4G card: http://en.community....2.aspx#19566902
But perhaps you just need the Rollup Package.

Roll-up package said it did not apply to my system. If it were just a size issue with the SD card would she be having problems with her i-pod. All the problems began at the same time a couple of months ago.

I have a windows 7 OS. It was purchased for a laptop per the licenses agreement can I place it on my home desktop and would this possibly fix the problem?

The problems are with the reader, and I know so little about it that I fear I am not much help at all.

Consider posting at PC Guide forum. They have some very knowledgeable hardware people there.

you need to just repair your installed your driver .
If it still not work than uninstall it form the control panel, add remove programs.
Restart the computer and install it again.

i hope it will work.

Anderson7 is not a trained helper. See The various helper groups here. However his suggestion is worth trying.
