My Dell laptop has suddenly decided to run very slowly.

 

I have Norton Internet Security installed, I've run an Antivirus scan (clean) and have used Norton Utilities 16 to check for registry errors. I've also run CCleaner to clear my cache and cookies, have reset Firefox, defragged the C: drive, hoovered out the vent on the machine and nothing has made any difference.

 

I've also run Hijack this and have attached the log  hijackthis.log   18.45KB   144 downloads

 

Some programs I've tried to run, like the latest version of Hijackthis and also a Western Digital hard drive diagnostics tool are loading to around 112K memory (in Task Manager) but they are not actually opening/running.

 

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hijackthis is not ready for the 64 bit operating system.

Run this tool and post the logs for my review.

Download the version of this tool for your operating system.
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (64 bit)
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (32 bit)
and save it to a folder on your computer's Desktop.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Thanks for helping me.

 

I'm having the weirdest problem. Several times, I've saved the 64 bit version of the scan application - either to my desktop or to a new folder on my Desktop. Each time I do this, the application icon appears and within about 10 seconds, it simply disappears! Never seen anything like that before. Any suggestions?

I've figured out why the program icon is disappearing. Norton Internet Security has just flashed up a message saying:

 

"FRST64.exe is not safe and has been removed"!!

 

Any suggestions?

The file is safe I use it everyday.

You can de-quarantine the file in Norton.

Download the file and look for any messages from Norton.
I think you will find an action button to let Norton accept the file.

Thank you for your help. I will be responding soon upon downloading the programme and will then post the results.

 

My sincere apologies for any errors made as regards my original posting. I will certainly read the guidelines for future reference.
