Most security blogs and sites consider the Google Toolbar to be either a security or privacy risk, but what about the 'Googlebar' in Firefox? Is it harmless or just as noxious?

I wouldn't say that the Google Toolbar is a problem, but that's if you want it. If you don't, it was more than likely installed along with some other program quickly clicking through the user agreement and not noticing that one of the screens was offering to install it. It should be easily uninstalled from Control Panel's Programs and Features.
