Startup Control Panel (SCP) by Mike Lin (www.mlin.net) was on some recommended list (I believe) on the spywareinfo.com website. There are two ways to install SCP, and the narrative in the spywareinfo.com list was positive about the stand-alone (.exe) installation, but not the Control Panel appelet (spelling?) method.

Can someone please tell me why the Control Panel appelet is not recommended? I installed SCP via this method just last night on my kids new WinXP Home PC, and was just about to do the same on my similar PC.

Thanks for your assistance.

It's not necessary. The standalone version can be copied anywhere and run directly without having to go through the control panel. Older machines would have to install the Microsoft MSI Installer if they dont' have it already.
