"Microsoft's WindowsUpdate, the primary route to obtaining patches to the Redmond, Wash.-based developer's software, is nearly ready to roll in an enhanced version 5. Windows Update 5, which is an integral part of the upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), has reached Release Candidate 2 status, meaning it's very close to final form. The new service and site features a cleaner interface, lets users switch between custom and express installations -- the latter displays all critical updates and installs them with a single click -- offers improved automatic updating, and will resume interrupted downloads, a tool especially useful for those on dial-up connections which can fail before the entire update package is retrieved..."
