it depends...AVG for example, is seemingly updated every other minute, but updates are no use whatsover if they havent included a signature file for a brand new virus, fresh out of the blocks. Thats where heuristics come into play, but results can vary wildly.

youre always going to be playing catch up to some degree, but with regards to which is the best, i fear its just too subjective an area to come up with a realistic answer. All i can really say is that the ones i dont rate are norton and mcafee, though thats just down to the fact that they seem to be more susceptible to compromise than most other AV products out there.

The most requently updated scanners are probably the on line scanners, such as Trend Housecall, or Panda.

A couple of the "heavyweight" commercial A/Vs like sophos, are actually updated about every couple of hours, but that is usually impracticable for home use!

Well I use Kaspersky and they try to put out updates every 3 hours. I usually get 2 updates per day when things are slow.

Corporate scanners are the most powerful, but they're not exactly for home use... unless you can get yourself a copy somehow.

They're worth every penny, though, especially Symantec Corporate.
Signature file is under revision. This will be back shortly.

I don't like Symantec's Norton products.Would stick to McAfee SecurityCenter. Why don't you guys try out Prevx Home? It's something like a tool of Spybot System Settings Protector. You might considering disabling it when installing a software.(one who's publisher you trust)

Help my friend with his game.
