Its another layer of protection against all the threats you will find on the internet.
If you want to make it hard for others to get in and out of your computer , then a decent firewall is the best way to do that.

A hardware firewall is a piece of software that is inside of a piece of hardware, usually a router. You don't install it. You just buy the hardware, install the hardware and the firewall will kick in.
Hope this makes sense!

You need to use a Software FireWall to control what leaves your computer. A Software FireWall will also stop what might get by the Router FireWall.
There are alot of Good FireWalls on the Net you can do a Google Search for FireWalls.
One piece of Advice is trial more than one FireWall before Purchasing one. This way you will see what works best for you and your System. Most Software Firewalls have a 30 day trial period before purchasing.
I used ZoneAlarm Free and then Swapped to OutPost Free. I now use OutPost Pro. But I use it because it works for me and my system.

Illegally downloading programs is the same as stealing in a store! There are lots of people that have worked on the program you download. Those people will not get paid for their work!thats wat my friend does but wats so bad about that
From a security standpoint, you will not be eligible for support/updates/bugfixes/etc. for those programs. That, coupled with the fact that those boards usually crawl with viruses and other bugs, means that you are opening up your PC for a whole new can of trouble...
