What does one do about infected archives?
I have just installed and run AntivirXP and it has removed several worms and Trojans, but says it can't clean infected files in archives.
Does it matter?
many thanks

The archives may be your System Restore.

Sometimes, when a PC is infected a copy of the file is backed up in your System Restore (XP and ME). By default, Windows prevents System Restore from being modified by outside programs, which includes your AV program.

See here for how to reset your System restore to resolve the problem

Cannot repair, quarantine, or delete a virus found in the _RESTORE or System volume information folder

Basically you need to disable your System Restore, scan with your AV and then turn on System Restore again. Note that turning off System Restore will remove any existing restore points.
Hope that is of some help.
