My hard drive isn't working correctly and seems to have many bad sectors. I need a virus scanner without a need of an operating system. I have a boot disk but I need a virus scanner that can fit on a floppy. Any help is appreciated.

If you're running 98SE or earlier, you can use F-Prot for DOS - it's commercial, unfortunately.

You can also try a BartPE disc built on someone else's machine, which will boot you to a preinstallation environment off the CD.

You can even try a Knoppix Linux CD; that'll boot you to a Linux environment and KDE, which'll let you run stuff off the CD to (perhaps) back up your stuff.

As is, if the drive's going back, I would very much recommend having your neighborhood tech stick it in their machine and pull the data off it onto theirs, then low-level format the sucker.

If it's physical damage, there's nothing you can do but get a new drive.

Off-topic, I rather like the user name; that's the way the good (though somewhat whacked) Kodachi refers to Ranma.
Signature file is under revision. This will be back shortly.
