Try removing the sound card and replacing it be sure that it is inserted completely in, also you could try a different pci slot just incase the problem is with the slot (but i doubt that is the problem)

did you just recently purchase this card? also which card is it?

Hi triadd,
I've already tried changing the PCI slot and did not work.
The card came with the Gateway system bought 1 year ago. It's a Soundblaster 5880.

Sometimes in the device manager I see multimedia controller (with an interrogation mark). Some other times I see PCI device (with the yellow interrogation mark).
Lately, nothing shows up on the device manager.

Thought it might be an issue with the driver. Downloaded a new driver from Gateway website but still did not help.

Symantec corporate, AVG free, Adaware (Lavasoft) and Spybot are run periodically and as far as I can tell the system is clean. A highjack this log also came up clean.

The computer otherwise works fine, but MUTE. No sound from any source (online, cd, etc).

Any help is appreciated. Do not know what else to do
Thanks
Danny
