Not sure if I have posted this in the right place, if I havent I apologise. I get conflicting views about the disk defragmentation. I have windowsXP, and its usually telling me every week to defrag the disk. I have read in tech forums not to use this tool so often, because it can damage the disk and hard drive. I would appreciate others views on this thank you so much

Acc'd to M$, twice a month should be sufficient on a PC of moderate use.
After all is invested in correctness, then how does it stand with truth?

My understanding is that on a hard drive with the NTFS installed, it is counter-productive to defrag too often. NTFS is very different from FAT32 file system, so you are doing the right thing, although you could prolly go twice a month ok. Take care.
