I have Windows XP Pro. I ran Spybot S&D and found some registry entries to be removed, one called "Desktop.Explorer" and the other "Desktop.ActiveDesktop."

When I removed them I lost the ability to change the background on my desktop, along with the entire "Desktop" tab in the desktop Properties window.

I tried to recover them within Spybot, (the entries were in the recovery list,) but doing so did not (completely) fix or restore the computer's "Desktop" tab in the "Properties" window. (The tab came back, but everything is grayed out.)

I believe they were some kind of CLSID registry entries, with a whole bunch of numbers, so there's no way I could find and manually restore the entries/options.

It may be possible that the entries were (partially) restored, because I have the Desktop tab back now, but I cannot change any of the settings in the Desktop tab. Also the Active Desktop tab is missing when I click the "Customize My Desktop" button.

PLEASE HELP! :techsupport:

You could ask for help in the Spybot forum.

There's a thread about desktop explorer here:
Desktop.Explorer and the other Desktop.ActiveDesktop are listed as beta detections on the beta.sbi tab.You might want to consider not downloading beta detections anymore,or not fixing them unless you are very sure of what they are.:)
